I find Indian weddings to be a true culmination of all the emotions one could possibly experience- they are full of tears, roaring laughter, the sentiment of their deep cultural roots, the joy that rings out through dancing, and the love of hundreds gathered to celebrate.
Asees and Harpreet certainly aren’t the first South Asian weddings I’ve photographed, but definitely one of the longest- 3 days of celebrations in LA followed by a 4th, and final, celebration in NYC. I was thrilled to be a part of each of their days, but as luck would have it, so was inclement weather. It all started with a big wave that caught Asees during their engagement session in Malibu, followed by the week of torrential LA rains for their wedding, and finally the snowstorm of the decade on the day of their final celebration in NYC.
While everyone was fleeing the streets of New York we were taking out umbrellas, braving the high winds, low temperatures and being blasted by snow trotting all over the city, taking some truly unbelievable photos. We created a scene inside of Grand Central where they walked around with a grace that made onlookers stop mesmerized, then again in the middle of Park Ave and the Meatpacking District. I’m truly blown away by the dedication of both Asees and Harp who toughed it out to make sure these photos will be unforgettable.
The weather may have been trying to bring down their spirits, but their love can definitely withstand anything, and we have the shots to prove it.
